Common yoga misconceptions to stop believing!
Josie Knowles | AUG 14, 2022

There are many myths and misconceptions of yoga out there, but let's focus our attention on the ones I hear most often; that you need to be young, thin and flexible or able-bodied to do yoga well. NOOO! THIS IS WRONG!!!
Social media plays a big role in perpetuating these myths! Just scroll on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook and you will see endless images of young, half-naked, slender yogis doing sexy or advanced poses to promote themselves or their businesses. Imagine how many shots it took or filters used to make these images appear perfect?! Sadly, these online images and common misconceptions lead people to question whether yoga is right for them, or if they will fit in.
When I started yoga, I was in my mid 40's, overweight with severe back pain and could barely touch my toes! I certainly didn't fit the mold of young, thin or flexible. I am now a 52 year old yoga teacher, inviting everyone who is NOT young, thin and flexible to join me and experience the amazing benefits of yoga - better sleep and balanced emotions, promoting relaxation, improved flexibility, enhanced mental focus, and so much more!
Yoga is for everybody and EVERY BODY. Yoga is about developing a deeper connection with yourself and working with your body as it is (shape, skeletal structure, muscles, injuries, etc...).
Knowing this, are you ready to let go of your beliefs and misconceptions of yoga? Are you tempted to try?
Check out my schedule here and book a class - no matter what your shape, size or ability. I would love to guide you on your journey.
Be Well.
